Community Presentation of San Francisco’s 2024 HIV, HCV, and STI epidemiology data

Kyle Bernstein, Deputy Director of Surveillance, Data & Analytics at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, gave a community presentation on San Francisco’s 2024 HIV, HCV, and STI epidemiology data on March 21, 2026. Below is a link to the recording & slides.

Purpose: This session provides an overview of recent epidemiologic trends across HIV, HCV, and STIs in San Francisco.

Presenter bio:

Kyle T. Bernstein, PhD, ScM, is an infectious disease epidemiologist and public health leader with more than 20 years of experience in surveillance, prevention, and workforce development. He currently serves as Deputy Director for Surveillance, Data, and Analytics in the Population Health Division at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, leading data-driven efforts to improve population health outcomes.

Dr. Bernstein earned advanced degrees in infectious disease epidemiology from Johns Hopkins and has held leadership roles across local, state, and federal public health systems, including over a decade at the CDC. There, he served as Branch Chief across multiple divisions and contributed to major public health responses, including COVID-19, Ebola, MPOX, and the West Virginia HIV outbreak.

An expert in STIs, HIV, and emerging infectious diseases, he has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, informed national and global public health policy, and maintained academic appointments at institutions including UC Berkeley, Emory, and NYU. His work has been recognized with multiple national awards, and he continues to advance evidence-based disease prevention, strengthen public health systems, and promote equitable health outcomes.
